Luby Leads Inchicore To Victory

It was a trip to Blanchardstown this week for a game against Huntstown  /Hartstown Villa at their well organised home ground at Hartstown Park.  After last weeks Dalton Cup heroics it was back to the hard graft of The LFL Major Division for coach Alan O'Brien and his team.

Just before kick off goalkeeper Robert Nolan pulled up injured, along with both central defenders from last weeks game who were also missing it looked like Inchicore were off to a bad start.  It was not to be however as all three replacements gave great accounts of themselves throughout the game.

John Luby looks to beat his man

Stephen Fay almost gave 'The Core' an early lead but Hatrstowns goalkeeper was alert to the danger.  Chances were hard to come by for Inchicore as Hartstown battled hard in midfield and at the back, the half time scoreline of 0-0 a fair reflection of the game.

The game turned on it's head in the opening five minutes of the second half.  A substitution and tactical switch moving John Luby to left back brought the opening goal less than 60 seconds after the restart.  A delicate lobbed through ball from Luby set Darren Hennigan free who finished neatly at the second attempt.  A second, four minutes later, from Adam Ryan left Hartstown shell shocked.

Ger Marshall scores Inchicores third goal

Gerard Marshall almost added a third to kill the game off but made no mistake minutes later with a superb header after another delightful John Luby cross from the left.  Inchicore stalwart Karl Cogan thought he had scored the fourth goal but the referee ruled he had taken the ball from the goalkeepers grasp illegally.

Hartstown rallied and pulled a goal back as they tried to claw their way back into the game. However, a straight red card for one of their substitutes put paid to any notion of an unlikely comeback as Inchicore closed out the game to gain three valuable points in the race for the league title.
